Despite the disgraceful handling by the Conservative leaders of the petition calling for a referendum on Britain’s membership of the European Union, Enterprise Britain believes the system can be used to help our downtrodden SMEs.
Full details of ‘epetitions’ can be found on www.epetitions.direct.gov.uk
The first instruction is that it must be a request for the Government to do something and it must be issued to a specific department.
Our proposal is that the following epetition should be addressed to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills:
“We, the undersigned, ask the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills to recognise that their efforts to-date to stimulate Britain’s enterprising businesses have completely failed and they will try to do better in the future.”
If we can secure 100,000 votes a Committee will decide if our petition goes ahead.
Hopefully our political leaders will allow a free vote. Vince Cable will, of course, lead the opposition but it will be an opportunity for Ed Miliband and the Labour team to really put forward some radical thinking.
The result does not really matter as it would not be binding. What might happen is that the lack-lustre, ineffective and damaging regime now operating might be called to account. There are probably enough MPs of integrity who would realise that this is an opportunity to focus on this vital subject in the public spotlight.
If you and your colleagues are willing to support our petition please email us and let us know.
We need 100,000 signatures…
